A pulsed high-voltage decelerator system to deliver low-energy antiprotons
/ Husson, A (IJCLab, Orsay) ; Kim, B H (Seoul Natl. U., Dept. Phys. Astron.) ; Welker, A (CERN) ; Charlton, M (Swansea U.) ; Choi, J J (Seoul Natl. U., Dept. Phys. Astron.) ; Chung, M (UNIST, Ulsan) ; Cladé, P (Paris, Lab. Kastler Brossel) ; Comini, P (IRFU, Saclay) ; Crépin, P -P (Paris, Lab. Kastler Brossel) ; Crivelli, P (Zurich, ETH-CSCS/SCSC) et al.
The GBAR (Gravitational Behavior of Antihydrogen at Rest) experiment at CERN requires efficient deceleration of 100 keV antiprotons provided by the new ELENA synchrotron ring to synthesize antihydrogen. This is accomplished using electrostatic deceleration optics and a drift tube that is designed to switch from -99 kV to ground when the antiproton bunch is inside – essentially a charged particle “elevator” – producing a 1 keV pulse. Multimodal simulation of large area silicon photomultipliers for time resolution optimization
/ Sánchez, David (ICC, Barcelona U.) ; Gómez, Sergio (ICC, Barcelona U.) ; Fernández-Tenllado, José María (ICC, Barcelona U. ; CERN) ; Ballabriga, Rafael (CERN) ; Campbell, Michael (CERN) ; Gascón, David (ICC, Barcelona U.)
The Silicon Photomultiplier (SiPM) sensor is replacing the extensive use of the Photomultiplier Tube (PMT) in fast timing applications. These photo-sensors can be applied in different fields such as medical imaging systems like Positron Emission Tomography (PET), LIDAR technologies or High Energy Physics (HEP) experiments. [...]

Impact of betatron collimation losses in the High-Energy Large Hadron Collider
/ Varasteh, M (CERN) ; Bruce, R (CERN) ; Cerutti, F (CERN) ; Crouch, M (CERN) ; Zimmermann, F (CERN)
In response to recommendations in the 2013 update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics, a conceptual design effort for an energy upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, the so-called high-energy LHC (HE-LHC), was launched as part of the Future Circular Collider study. The HE-LHC machine, which is meant to use 16 T magnet technologies in the existing LHC tunnel, would provide proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 27 TeV (∼2×LHC) with a total stored energy of 1.34 GJ (∼4×LHC) per beam. Wake-function, impedance, and energy loss determination for two countermoving particle beams
/ Teofili, L (U. Rome La Sapienza (main) ; INFN, Rome ; CERN) ; Arpaia, P (Naples U. ; CERN) ; Giordano, F (Naples U. ; CERN) ; Lamas, I (CERN) ; Rumolo, G (CERN) ; Salvant, B (CERN) ; Zannini, C (CERN) ; Migliorati, M (U. Rome La Sapienza (main) ; INFN, Rome)
This paper deals with the determination of the wake-function, impedance and energy loss due to surrounding accelerator components of two countermoving beams, i.e., two beams moving in opposite directions. Differently from the classical case, the distance between source and test charges cannot be considered constant. [...]

Experimental Evidence for Common Driving Effects in Low-Energy Fission from Sublead to Actinides
/ Schmitt, C (Strasbourg, IPHC) ; Lemasson, A (GANIL) ; Schmidt, K H (Erzhausen, Germany) ; Jhingan, A (IUAC, New Delhi) ; Biswas, S (GANIL) ; Kim, Y H (Laue-Langevin Inst.) ; Ramos, D (GANIL) ; Andreyev, A N (York U., England ; JAERI, Tokai ; CERN) ; Curien, D (Strasbourg, IPHC) ; Ciemala, M (Cracow, INP) et al.
Isotopic distributions of fragments from fission of the neutron-deficient $^{178}$Hg nuclide are reported. This experimental observable is obtained for the first time in the region around lead using an innovative approach based on inverse kinematics and the coincidence between the large acceptance magnetic spectrometer VAMOS++ and a new detection arm close to the target.
