Proposal for a new ALICE CPV-HMPID front-end electronics topology / Seguna, Clive (U. Malta) ; Gatt, Edward (U. Malta) ; De Cataldo, Giacinto (INFN, Bari) ; Casha, Owen (U. Malta) ; Grech, Ivan (U. Malta)
This paper presents the proposal of a new front-end readout electronics (RO) architecture for the ALICE Charged-particle Veto detector (CPV) located in PHOton Spectrometer (PHOS), and for the High Momentum particle IDentification detector (HMPID). With the upgrades in hardware typology and proposed new readout scheme in FPGA design, the RO system shall achieve at least five times the speed of the present front-end readout electronics. [...]

Theoretical aspects of antimatter and gravity / Blas, Diego (CERN)
In this short contribution, I review the physical case of studying the gravitational properties of antimatter from a theoretical perspective. I first discuss which elements are desirable for any theory where the long-range interactions between matter and antimatter differ from those of matter with itself. [...]

The CERN Antiproton Decelerator (AD) provides antiproton beams with a kinetic energy of 5.3 MeV to an active user community. The experiments would profit from a lower beam energy, but this extraction energy is the lowest one possible under good conditions with the given circumference of the AD. [...]

Challenging the standard model by high-precision comparisons of the fundamental properties of protons and antiprotons / Ulmer, S (RIKEN (main)) ; Mooser, A (RIKEN (main)) ; Nagahama, H (RIKEN (main)) ; Sellner, S (RIKEN (main)) ; Smorra, C (RIKEN (main))
The BASE collaboration investigates the fundamental properties of protons and antiprotons, such as charge-to-mass ratios and magnetic moments, using advanced cryogenic Penning trap systems. In recent years, we performed the most precise measurement of the magnetic moments of both the proton and the antiproton, and conducted the most precise comparison of the proton-to-antiproton charge-to-mass ratio. Recent progress of laser spectroscopy experiments on antiprotonic helium / Hori, Masaki (Munich, Max Planck Inst. Quantenopt.)
The Atomic Spectroscopy and Collisions Using Slow Antiprotons (ASACUSA) collaboration is currently carrying out laser spectroscopy experiments on antiprotonic helium $(\mathrm{\bar{p}He^+ \equiv \bar{p} + He^{2+} + e^-})$ atoms at CERN’s Antiproton Decelerator facility. Two-photon spectroscopic techniques have been employed to reduce the Doppler width of the measured $\mathrm{\bar{p} He^+}$ resonance lines, and determine the atomic transition frequencies to a fractional precision of 2.3–5 parts in $10^9$. [...]

AEgIS at ELENA: outlook for physics with a pulsed cold antihydrogen beam / Doser, M (CERN) ; Aghion, S (Milan Polytechnic ; INFN, Milan Bicocca) ; Amsler, C (Stefan Meyer Inst. Subatomare Phys.) ; Bonomi, G (Brescia U. ; INFN, Pavia) ; Brusa, R S (Trento U. ; TIFPA-INFN, Trento) ; Caccia, M (INFN, Milan Bicocca ; Insubria U., Como) ; Caravita, R (Genoa U. ; INFN, Genoa) ; Castelli, F (INFN, Milan ; Milan U.) ; Cerchiari, G (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) ; Comparat, D (LAC, Orsay) et al.
The efficient production of cold antihydrogen atoms in particle traps at CERN’s Antiproton Decelerator has opened up the possibility of performing direct measurements of the Earth’s gravitational acceleration on purely antimatter bodies. The goal of the AEgIS collaboration is to measure the value of g for antimatter using a pulsed source of cold antihydrogen and a Moiré deflectometer/Talbot–Lau interferometer. [...]

Energy Density Method: An Approach for a Quick Estimation of Quench Temperatures in High-Field Accelerator Magnets / Salmi, Tiina (Tampere U. of Tech.) ; Schoerling, Daniel (CERN)
Accelerator magnets for future particle accelerators are designed to work with as high energy densities as possible to achieve high fields and compact magnet designs. A key factor limiting the energy density is given by the protection in case of a quench: If a quench occurs, the stored energy must be first absorbed by the windings, and the magnet temperature shall not exceed a given limit. Open Charm Measurements at CERN SPS Energies with the New Vertex Detector of the NA61/SHINE Experiment: Status and Plans / Merzlaya, Anastasia (Jagiellonian U. ; St. Petersburg State U.) /NA61/SHINE
The study of open charm meson production provides an efficient tool for detailed investigations of the properties of hot and dense matter formed in nucleus-nucleus collisions. The interpretation of the existing data from the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) suffers from a lack of knowledge about the total charm production rate. [...]
