The n_TOF facility at CERN: present status and future upgrades / Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Vlachoudis, Vasilis (CERN) ; Andriamonje, Samuel (CERN) ; Chiaveri, Enrico (CERN) ; Losito, Roberto (CERN)
The n_TOF facility is a spallation neutron source operating at CERN from 2001. It produces, thanks to the characteristics of the proton driver and of the massive Pb target, a wide energy, very high instantaneous neutron flux, which is employed for neutron-induced cross-section measurement. [...]

A transparent detector for n_TOF neutron beam monitoring / Andriamonje, Samuel (CERN)
In order to obtain high precision cross-section measurements using the time-of-flight technique, it is important to know with good accuracy the neutron fluence at the measuring station. The detector dedicated to these measurements should be placed upstream of the detectors used for capture and fission cross-section measurements. [...]

A new 2-D Micromegas detector for neutron beam diagnosis at n_TOF / Andriamonje, Samuel (CERN)
A novel detector for 2D neutron beam diagnostic has been jointly developed by CERN and CEA in the framework of the n_TOF Collaboration for investigation of the neutron beam spatial characteristics, namely position and profile as a function of the neutron energy. The detector is based on the already established MicroMegas "Bulk" technology and has been evolved from the one used for the CAST (CERN Axion Solar Telescope) experiment but equipped with an appropriate neutron/charged particle converter for neutron detection. Improved neutron capture cross section measurements with the n_TOF Total Absorption Calorimeter / Mendoza, Emilio (CIEMAT, Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas, Madrid-Spain)
The n_TOF Collaboration operates a Total Absorption Calorimeter (TAC) for measuring neutron capture cross sections of low-mass and/or radioactive samples. The results obtained with the TAC have led to a substantial improvement of the capture cross sections of 237Np and 240Pu. [...]

Measurement of the 236U(n,f) cross-section at n_TOF / Sarmento, Raul (ITN)
A precise knowledge of the 236U neutron-induced fission cross-section is required for the development of accelerator-driven systems and reactors based on the Th-U cycle. The evaluated data presently stored in the nuclear data libraries rely on outdated experimental measurements and show large discrepancies in the energy region between 1 keV and 100 keV. [...]

Fission croos-section measurements of U-233, Cm-245 and Am-241,243 at the CERN n_TPOF facility / Calviani, M (CERN, Geneva, Switzerland)
Neutron-induced fission cross-sections of minor actinides have been measured using the n_TOF white neutron source at CERN, Geneva, as part of a large experimental program aiming at collecting new data relevant for nuclear astrophysics and for the design of advanced reactor systems. The measurements at n_TOF take advantage of the innovative features of the n_TOF facility, namely the wide energy range, high instantaneous neutron flux and good energy resolution. [...]

The role of Fe and Ni for the s-process nucleosynthesis and innovative nuclear technologies / Tain, JL (Instituto de Fisica Corpuscular, CSIC-Universidad de Valencia, Spain)
The accurate measurement of neutron capture cross sections of all Fe and Ni isotopes is important for disentangling the contribution of the s-process and the r-process to the stellar nucleosynthesis of elements in the mass range 60 < A < 120. At the same time, Fe and Ni are important components of structural materials and improved neutron cross section data is relevant in the design of new nuclear systems. [...]

Study of Photon Strength Functions of Actinides: the case of U-235, Np-238 and Pu-241 / Guerrero, C (Centro de Investigaciones Energeticas Medioambientales y Technologicas CIEMAT, Madrid, Spain)
The decay from excited levels in medium and heavy nuclei can be described in a statistical approach by means of Photon Strength Functions and Level Density distributions. The study of electromagnetic cascades following neutron capture based on the use of high efficiency detectors has been shown to be well suited for probing the properties of the Photon Strength Function of heavy (high level density) and/or radioactive (high background) nuclei. Past, Present and Future of the n_TOF facility at CERN / Chiaveri, E (CERN, Geneva, Switzerland)
The n_TOF spallation neutron facility is operating at CERN since 2001. Neutrons are produced with a very wide energy range, from thermal up to 1 GeV and with a very high instantaneous flux (105n/cm2/pulse at 200 m from target) thanks to the high intensity (7x1012 protons/pulse) and low repetition rate of the Proton Synchrotron (PS) which is delivering protons to a lead spallation target.
