CERN Accelerating science

ABOUT PUBLISHED ARTICLES
The Articles collection aims to cover as far as possible the published literature in particle physics and its related technologies. The collection starts, comprising only the most important documents in the first decencies, from the mid of the 19th century. The full coverage starts from 1980 onwards. CERN publications are though covered 100% since the foundation of the organisation in 1954. The CERN Annual Report, vol. 3 - List of CERN Publications, is extracted from this dataset.

Impact of the neutral molecule trapping on beam lifetime and beam profile / Franchetti, G (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Zimmermann, F (CERN)
This proceeding addresses the effect of the neutral molecules trapped by the beam. It is in particular discussed the effect of a non-uniform neutral molecule distribution on the beam profile and the resulting beam lifetime. [...]

3D Polarisation of a Structured Laser Beam and Prospects for its Application to Charged Particle Acceleration / Polak, K (CERN ; Liberec Tech. U.) ; Gayde, J C (CERN) ; Sulc, M (Liberec Tech. U. ; Prague, Inst. Plasma Phys.)
A Structured Laser Beam (SLB) is a type of optical beam with spatially inhomogeneous 3D polarisation structures. Generating SLBs from vector beams allows the creation of Hollow Structured Laser Beams (HSLB) with a dark central core. [...]

Coherent J/$\psi$ photoproduction and polarization in peripheral Pb-Pb collisions with ALICE / Mallick, Dukhishyam (IJCLab, Orsay) /ALICE Collaboration
Photonuclear reactions are induced by the strong electromagnetic field generated by ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. These processes have been extensively studied in ultraperipheral collisions, in which the impact parameter is larger than twice the nuclear radius. [...]

Commissioning of X-LAB: a very high-capacity X-band RF test stand facility at the University of Melbourne / Volpi, Matteo (Melbourne U.) ; Giansiracusa, P J (Melbourne U.) ; Sheehy, S L (Melbourne U. ; ANSTO, Menai) ; Williams, S D (Melbourne U.) ; Rassool, R P (Melbourne U.) ; Taylor, G (Melbourne U.) ; Pushkarna, P (Melbourne U.) ; Dowd, R T (ANSTO, Menai) ; Zingre, K (ANSTO, Menai) ; Boronat, M (CERN) et al.
The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) beam-based acceleration baseline uses high-gradient travelling wave accelerating structures at a frequency of 12 GHz. In order to prove the performance of these structures at high peak power and short pulse width RF, two klystron-based test facilities will been put in operation this year. [...]

Search for medium-induced jet quenching effects in small collision systems with ALICE / Ryu, Jaehyeok (Pusan Natl. U.) /ALICE Collaboration
Collisions of small systems show signatures suggestive of collective flow associated with QGP formation in heavy-ion collisions. Jet quenching is also a consequence of QGP formation, but no significant evidence of it in small systems has been found to date. [...]

Precision QCD at FCC-ee / Plätzer, Simon (Graz U. ; Vienna U.) /FCC-ee QCD Collaboration
We discuss the status and challenges of predicting QCD effects at the FCC-ee, in the context of the FCC-ee QCD working group. In this presentation we focus on multi-purpose event generators, and parton showers and hadornization in particular, which will become the relevant topics for the most precise and detailed simulations at future e+ e- colliders..

The quark model predicts exotic hadrons beyond the conventional quark-antiquark mesons and three quark baryons. Exotic candidates have since been observed in the early 2000's. [...]

A new hydrogen-filled Cherenkov detector for Kaon tagging at the NA62 experiment at CERN / Sanders, Jack (Birmingham U.) /NA62 Collaboration
The precision measurement of $K^{+} \rightarrow \pi^{+} \nu \bar{\nu}$ at the NA62 experiment requires a kaon identification detector to have a time resolution better than 100ps, at least 95% kaon identification efficiency, and a pion misidentification probability of less than $10^{-4}$. Since the start of NA62 data taking in 2016, kaon identification has been performed by a differential Cherenkov with achromatic ring focus (CEDAR) detector with a nitrogen gas radiator. [...]

Improvement of the longitudinal phase space tomography at the J-PARC synchrotrons / Okita, H (J-PARC) ; Tamura, F (J-PARC) ; Yamamoto, M (J-PARC) ; Nomura, M (J-PARC) ; Shimada, T (J-PARC) ; Saha, P K (J-PARC) ; Yoshii, M (J-PARC) ; Ohmori, C (J-PARC) ; Sugiyama, Y (J-PARC) ; Hasegawa, K (J-PARC) et al.
The longitudinal phase space tomography, which reconstructs the phase space distribution from the one-dimensional bunch profiles, is used in various accelerators to measure longitudinal beam parameters. At the J-PARC, an implementation of the phase space tomography based on the convolution back projection method has been used to measure the momentum spread of the injected beam. [...]

Tailoring transverse beam characteristics with the new CERN PS Booster charge-exchange injection system / Renner, E (TU Vienna) ; Albright, S (CERN) ; Antoniou, F (CERN) ; Asvesta, F (CERN) ; Bartosik, H (CERN) ; Bracco, C (CERN) ; Di Giovanni, G P (CERN) ; Mikulec, B (CERN) ; Prebibaj, T (CERN) ; Skowronski, P (CERN) et al.
A key aspect of the LHC Injectors Upgrade project is the connection of the PSB to the newly built Linac4 and the related installation of a new 160\,MeV charge-exchange injection system. The new injection system was commissioned in winter 2020/21 and is now used operationally to tailor the transverse characteristics for the various beam types at CERN, such as high-intensity fixed target beams, LHC single bunch beams, and high-brightness beams for LHC.
