Probing the Structure of Quantum Mechanics : Nonlinearity, Nonlocality, Computation and Axiomatics   Jun 2000  - Brussels, Belgium  / Aerts, Diederik (ed.); Durt, Thomas (ed.); Czachor, Marek (ed.)
During the last decade, scientists working in quantum theory have been engaging in promising new fields such as quantum computation and quantum information processing, and have also been reflecting on the possibilities of nonlinear behavior on the quantum level. These are challenging undertakings because (1) they will result in new solutions to important technical and practical problems that were unsolvable by the classical approaches (for example, quantum computers can calculate problems that are intractable if one uses classical computers); and (2) they open up new 'hard' problems of a fundamental nature that touch the foundation of quantum theory itself (for example, the contradiction between locality and nonlinearity and the interpretation of quantum computing as a universal process). 1st Advanced School on Exoplanetary Science : Methods of Detecting Exoplanets   25 - 29 May 2015  - Vietri sul Mare, Italy  / Bozza, Valerio (ed.); Mancini, Luigi (ed.); Sozzetti, Alessandro (ed.)
In this book, renowned scientists describe the various techniques used to detect and characterize extrasolar planets, or exoplanets, with a view to unveiling the “tricks of the trade” of planet detection to a wider community. The radial velocity method, transit method, microlensing method, and direct imaging method are all clearly explained, drawing attention to their advantages and limitations and highlighting the complementary roles that they can play in improving the characterization of exoplanets’ physical and orbital properties. Thorium Energy for the World - ThEC13   27 - 31 Oct 2013  - Geneva, Switzerland  / Revol, Jean-Pierre (ed.); Bourquin, Maurice (ed.); Kadi, Yacine (ed.); Lillestol, Egil (ed.); Mestral, Jean-Christophe (ed.); Samec, Karel (ed.)
The Thorium Energy Conference (ThEC13) gathered some of the world’s leading experts on thorium technologies to review the possibility of destroying nuclear waste in the short term, and replacing the uranium fuel cycle in nuclear systems with the thorium fuel cycle in the long term. The latter would provide abundant, reliable and safe energy with no CO2 production, no air pollution, and minimal waste production. [...]
