This note presents Monte Carlo generator comparisons of the $t\bar{t}b\bar{b}$ and $t\bar{t}W$ processes at particle level. The aim is to compare the modelling of important backgrounds to $t\bar{t}H$ measurements in multi-lepton final states and in the $t\bar{t}H (H \to b\bar{b})$ decay channel and the treatment of the associated theory uncertainties for a combination of the full Run-2 $t\bar{t}H$ results from ATLAS and CMS. This report presents the results of the Models and Effective Field Theories Subgroup of the Off-Shell Interpretations Task Force in the LHC Higgs Working Group. The main goal of the subgroup was to discuss and advance the potential impact of off-shell Higgs measurements on searches for BSM physics carried out in the EFT framework or as benchmark model studies. Benchmark Scenarios for MSSM Higgs Boson Searches at the LHC / Bagnaschi, Emanuele Angelo (Universita e INFN Roma Tre (IT)) ; Heinemeyer, Sven (Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (ES)) ; Liebler, Stefan (Institute for Theoretical Physics (ITP), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, D-76131 Karlsruhe, Germany) ; Slavich, Pietro (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (FR)) ; Spira, Michael (Paul Scherrer Institute (CH))
A number of benchmark scenarios for MSSM Higgs boson searches at the LHC have been proposed in recent years, and some of them are already in use by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations for the interpretation of their results from Run 2. The LHC Higgs Working Group provides a set of ROOT files that contain the numerical predictions for masses, branching ratios and production cross sections in these scenarios, relying on state-of-the art calculations implemented in public codes. BSM Benchmarks for Effective Field Theories in Higgs and Electroweak Physics / Marzocca, David (INFN Trieste Italy) ; Riva, Francesco (Universite de Geneve (CH)) ; Criado, J (CAFPE Granada (Spain)) ; Dawson, S (BNL (US)) ; de Blas Mateo, Jorge (Universita e INFN, Padova (IT) and Durham University (UK)) ; Henning, Brian Quinn (CERN) ; Liu, D (Argonnne (US)) ; Low, I (Argonne (US)) ; Murphy, C (BNL (US)) ; Perez-Victoria Moreno De Barreda, Manuel Maria (Universidad de Granada (ES)) et al.
Effective Field Theories (EFTs) capture effects from heavy dynamics at low en- ergy and represent an essential ingredient in the context of Standard Model (SM) precision tests. This document gathers a number of relevant scenarios for heavy physics beyond the SM and presents explicit expressions for the Wilson coeffi- cients in their low-energy EFT. [...]

Constraining EFT parameters using simplified template cross sections / Hays, Chris (University of Oxford (GB)) ; Sanz Gonzalez, Veronica (CERN) ; Zemaityte, Gabija (University of Oxford (GB))
We discuss a procedure for fitting a set of dimension-6 effective field theory param- eters using simplified template cross section measurements. The steps are to determine equations relating the parameters to the cross sections, choose the fit parameters and external constraints, and perform the fit. [...]

Simplified Template Cross Sections – Stage 1.1 / Delmastro, Marco (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (FR)) ; Berger, Nicolas (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (FR)) ; Bertella, Claudia (Chinese Academy of Sciences (CN)) ; Duehrssen-Debling, Michael (CERN) ; Kivernyk, Oleh (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (FR)) ; Langford, Jonathon Mark (Imperial College (GB)) ; Milenovic, Predrag (University of Belgrade (RS)) ; Pandini, Carlo Enrico (CERN) ; Tackmann, Frank (Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DE)) ; Tackmann, Kerstin (Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DE)) et al.
Simplified Template Cross Sections (STXS) have been adopted by the LHC experiments as a common framework for Higgs measurements. Their purpose is to reduce the theoretical uncertainties that are directly folded into the measurements as much as possible, while at the same time allowing for the combination of the measurements between different decay channels as well as between experiments.
