Based on the observation of low average CPU utilisation of several hundred file storage servers in the EOS storage system at CERN, the Batch on EOS Extra Resources (BEER) project developed an approach to also utilise these resources for batch processing. With the inexorable increase in the use of mobile devices, wireless connectivity is expected by users anywhere, anytime. In general, this requirement is addressed in office buildings or public locations through the use of Wi-Fi technology but Wi-Fi is not well adapted for use in large experiment halls and complex underground environments, especially those where radiation exposure is an issue, such as the LHC tunnel and experimental caverns. The LHC Optical Private Network (LHCOPN), linking CERN and the Tier 1s, and the LHC Open Network Environment (LHCONE) which links these to the Tier 2 community both successfully supported the data transfer needs of the LHC community during Run 1 and have now evolved to serve the networking requirements of the new computing models for Run 2. We present here the current status and the key changes, notably the delivered and planned bandwidth increases, the ongoing work to better address the needs of the Asia-Pacific region, developments to improve redundancy and progress made for provisioning point-to-point links..
