Ca$_3$Mn$_2$O$_7$ structural path unraveled by atomic-scale properties: A combined experimental and ab initio study / Rocha-Rodrigues, P (Porto U.) ; Santos, S S M (Porto U.) ; Miranda, I P (Sao Paulo U.) ; Oliveira, G N P (Porto U.) ; Correia, J G (Lisbon, IST) ; Assali, L V C (Sao Paulo U.) ; Petrilli, H M (Sao Paulo U.) ; Araújo, J P (Porto U.) ; Lopes, A M L (Porto U.)
The structural phase transition path from the low-temperature polar structure up to the highest symmetric phase in the hybrid improper ferroelectric Ca$_3$Mn$_2$O$_7$ compound is here investigated at atomic scale. Measurements using the perturbed angular correlation local probe technique are combined with ab initio electronic structure calculations to observe the evolution of the electric field gradient parameters at the Ca site within the 10–1200 K temperature range. Branching ratio of the super-allowed $\beta$ decay of $^{10}$C / Blank, B. (CENBG, Gradignan) ; Aouadi, M. (CENBG, Gradignan) ; Ascher, P. (CENBG, Gradignan) ; Gerbaux, M. (CENBG, Gradignan) ; Giovinazzo, J. (CENBG, Gradignan) ; Grévy, S. (CENBG, Gradignan) ; Kurtukian Nieto, T. (CENBG, Gradignan) ; Dunlop, M.R. (Guelph U.) ; Dunlop, R. (Guelph U.) ; Laffoley, A.T. (Guelph U.) et al.
In an experiment performed at the ISOLDE facility of CERN, the super-allowed beta-decay branching ratio of 10C was determined with a high-precision single-crystal germanium detector. In order to evaluate the contribution of the pile-up of two 511 keV gamma quanta to one of the gamma-ray peaks of interest at 1021.7 keV, data were not only taken with 10C, but also with a 19Ne beam. TDPAC Studies of Local Defects and Phenomena in Ferroics and Multiferroics / Schell, Juliana (CERN ; Duisburg-Essen U.) ; Marschick, Georg (CERN ; TU Vienna)
We provide an overview of time-differential perturbed angular correlation (TDPAC) measurements of ferroic and multiferroic materials. Here, we explore chalcogenide spinels, lead titanate, lead zirconate, and bismuth ferrite, describing the use of TDPAC experiments to probe the physics of localized defects and the various mechanisms that govern electronic and magnetic interactions, the coupling of the associated degrees of freedom, and the structural, charge, and orbital correlations for these materials..

Laser-assisted nuclear decay spectroscopy of $^{176,177,179}$Au / Harding, R D (York U., England ; CERN) ; Andreyev, A N (York U., England ; JAERI, Tokai) ; Barzakh, A E (St. Petersburg, INP) ; Cubiss, J G (York U., England) ; Van Duppen, P (Leuven U.) ; Al Monthery, M (York U., England) ; Althubiti, N A (Manchester U.) ; Andel, B (Leuven U. ; Comenius U.) ; Antalic, S (Comenius U.) ; Cocolios, T E (Leuven U. ; Manchester U.) et al.
A study of the laser-ionized and mass-separated neutron-deficient isotopes $^{176,177,179}$Au was performed using the Resonance Ionization Laser Ion Source and the Windmill detection setup at ISOLDE, CERN. New and improved data on complex fine-structure α decays of the three isotopes were deduced, providing insight into the low-lying levels in the daughter nuclei $^{172,173,175}$Ir. [...]

Low-spin states in $^{80}$Ge populated in the $\beta$ decay of the $^{80}$Ga $3^-$ isomer / Sekal, S (Algiers U. Sci. Tech. ; CERN) ; Fraile, L M (Madrid U.) ; Lică, R (CERN ; Bucharest, IFIN-HH) ; Borge, M J G (Madrid, Inst. Estructura Materia) ; Walters, W B (Maryland U., Dept. Chem.) ; Aprahamian, A (Notre Dame U.) ; Benchouk, C (Algiers U. Sci. Tech.) ; Bernards, C (Yale U. (main) ; Cologne U.) ; Briz, J A (Madrid, Inst. Estructura Materia) ; Bucher, B (Idaho Natl. Lab.) et al.
The structure of  $^{80}$Ge has been investigated at the ISOLDE facility at CERN. A previous study reported for the first time a low-lying $0^+_2$ intruder state at 639 keV, based on the coincidence with a previously unobserved 1764-keV $γ$ ray, and suggested it as evidence for shape coexistence in $^{80}$Ge. Porous Silicon as a Platform for Radiation Theranostics Together with a Novel RIB-Based Radiolanthanoid / Jakobsson, Ulrika (Helsinki U.) ; Mäkilä, Ermei (Turku U.) ; Airaksinen, Anu J (Helsinki U.) ; Alanen, Osku (Helsinki U.) ; Etilé, Asenath (Helsinki U.) ; Köster, Ulli (Laue-Langevin Inst.) ; Ranjan, Sanjeev (Helsinki U.) ; Salonen, Jarno (Turku U.) ; Santos, Hélder A (Helsinki U.) ; Helariutta, Kerttuli (Helsinki U.)
Mesoporous silicon (PSi) is biocompatible and tailorable material with high potential in drug delivery applications. Here, we report of an evaluation of PSi as a carrier platform for theranostics by delivering a radioactive ion beam- (RIB-) based radioactive lanthanoid into tumors in a mouse model of prostate carcinoma. The acquisition of two-dimensional (2D) channeling patterns is gaining increased popularity within the ion beam community. However, with the exception of emission channeling experiments for the lattice location of radioactive impurities, quantitative analysis of such patterns is rarely found. [...]

C‐terminal Cysteines of CueR Act as Auxiliary Metal Site Ligands upon Hg$^{II}$ Binding—A Mechanism To Prevent Transcriptional Activation by Divalent Metal Ions? / Balogh, Ria K (Szeged U.) ; Gyurcsik, Béla (Szeged U.) ; Hunyadi‐Gulyás, Éva (Szeged U., Cybernetics Lab) ; Schell, Juliana (CERN ; Duisburg-Essen U.) ; Thulstrup, Peter W (Copenhagen U.) ; Hemmingsen, Lars (Copenhagen U.) ; Jancsó, Attila (Szeged U.)
Intracellular CuI is controlled by the transcriptional regulator CueR, which effectively discriminates between monovalent and divalent metal ions. It is intriguing that HgII does not activate transcription, as bis-thiolate metal sites exhibit high affinity for HgII. [...]
