Charge and spin state of dilute Fe in NaCl and LiF / ISOLDE Collaboration
There is an apparent mismatch between electron paramagnetic resonance and Mössbauer spectroscopy results on the charge and spin states of dilute Fe impurities in NaCl; Mössbauer spectroscopy data have been interpreted in terms of high-spin Fe$^{2+}$, while electron paramagnetic resonance studies suggest low-spin Fe$^{1+}$. In the present study, the charge and spin states of dilute substitutional Fe impurities in NaCl and LiF have been investigated with $^{57}$Mn → $^{57}$Fe emission Mössbauer spectroscopy. [...]

Magnetic Structure and Strain State in Fe/V Superlattices Studied by $^{57}$Fe$^+$ Emission and Conversion Electron Mössbauer Spectroscopy / Mølholt, Torben E (Iceland U. ; CERN) ; Ólafsson, Sveinn (Iceland U.) ; Gunnlaugsson, Haraldur P (Iceland U.) ; Qi, Bingcui (Iceland U.) ; Johnston, Karl (CERN) ; Mantovan, Roberto (IMM, Bologna) ; Masenda, Hilary (Witwatersrand U.) ; Bharuth-Ram, Krish (DUT, Durban) ; Gíslason, Hafliði P (Iceland U.) ; Langouche, Guido (Leuven U.) et al.
The magnetic properties of the Fe/V superlattices were studied by conventional Conversion Electron Mössbauer Spectroscopy (CEMS) and online 57Fe+ emission Mössbauer Spectroscopy (eMS) at room temperature (RT) at ISOLDE/CERN. The unique depth-enhanced sensitivity and ultradiluted regime of the probe atoms adopted in this eMS facility enabled the investigation of the magnetic structures and the strain state in the superlattice layers and at the interfaces. Nuclear moments of indium isotopes reveal abrupt change at magic number 82 / Vernon, A R (Manchester U. ; MIT ; Leuven U.) ; Garcia Ruiz, R F (MIT ; CERN) ; Miyagi, T (TRIUMF) ; Binnersley, C L (Manchester U.) ; Billowes, J (Manchester U.) ; Bissell, M L (Manchester U.) ; Bonnard, J (York U., England) ; Cocolios, T E (Leuven U.) ; Dobaczewski, J (York U., England) ; Farooq-Smith, G J (Leuven U.) et al.
In spite of the high-density and strongly correlated nature of the atomic nucleus, experimental and theoretical evidence suggests that around particular ‘magic’ numbers of nucleons, nuclear properties are governed by a single unpaired nucleon$^{1,2}$. A microscopic understanding of the extent of this behaviour and its evolution in neutron-rich nuclei remains an open question in nuclear physics$^{3–5}$. [...]

Population of a low-spin positive-parity band from high-spin intruder states in $^{177}$Au: The two-state mixing effect / Venhart, M (Bratislava, Inst. Phys.) ; Balogh, M (Bratislava, Inst. Phys.) ; Herzáň, A (Bratislava, Inst. The extremely neutron-deficient isotopes $^{177,179}$Au were studied by means of in-beam γ -ray spectroscopy. Specific tagging techniques, α -decay tagging in $^{177}$Au and isomer tagging in $^{179}$Au, were used for these studies. [...]

Resonance Excitations in $^7$Be(d,p)$^8$Be$^\ast$ to Address the Cosmological Lithium Problem / Ali, Sk M. (Bose Inst., Kolkata) ; Gupta, D. (Bose Inst., Kolkata) ; Kundalia, K. The anomaly in lithium abundance is a well-known unresolved problem in nuclear astrophysics. A recent revisit to the problem tried the avenue of resonance enhancement to account for the primordial $^7$Li abundance in standard big-bang nucleosynthesis (BBN). [...]

We introduce a novel thick-target concept tailored to the extraction of refractory 4d and 5d transition metal radionuclides of molybdenum, technetium, ruthenium and tungsten for radioactive ion beam production. Despite the more than 60-year old history of thick-target ISOL mass-separation facilities like ISOLDE, the extraction of the most refractory elements as radioactive ion beam has so far not been successful. Spectral synthesis of multimode lasers to the Fourier limit in integrated Fabry–Perot diamond resonators / Granados, Eduardo (CERN) ; Granados, Camilo ; Ahmed, Rizwan (CERN) ; Chrysalidis, Katerina (CERN) ; Fedosseev, Valentin N (CERN) ; Marsh, Bruce A (CERN) ; Wilkins, Shane G (CERN) ; Mildren, Richard P (Macquarie U.) ; Spence, David J (Macquarie U.)
Fourier-limited nanosecond pulses featuring narrow spectral bandwidths are required for applications in spectroscopy, sensing, and quantum optics. Here, we demonstrate a direct and simple route for the generation of single-frequency light relying on phonon-resonant Raman interactions within a monolithic diamond resonator. [...]

We report on the generation and tuning of single-frequency laser light in a monolithic Fabry–Pérot diamond Raman resonator operating in the visible spectral range. The device was capable of squeezing the linewidth of a broad multi-mode nanosecond pump laser ([Formula: see text] 7.2 ± 0.9 GHz at [Formula: see text] 450 nm) to a nearly Fourier-limited single axial mode Stokes pulse ([Formula: see text] 114 ± 20 MHz at [Formula: see text] 479 nm) [...]

Direct evidence of Be as an amphoteric dopant in GaN / Wahl, U. (IST, Lisbon) ; Correia, J. G. (IST, Lisbon) ; Costa, A. R. G. (KU Leuven) ; Lima, T. A. L. (KU Leuven) ; Moens, J. (KU Leuven) ; Kappers, M. J. (Cambridge U.) ; da Silva, M. R. (Aveiro U., CICECO) ; Pereira, L. M. C. (KU Leuven) ; Vantomme, A. (KU Leuven) /IS634 Collaboration
The interest in Be as an impurity in GaN stems from the challenge to understand why GaN can be doped p type with Mg, while this does not work for Be. While theory has actually predicted an acceptor level for Be that is shallower than Mg, it was also argued that Be is not a suitable acceptor because its am-photeric nature, i.e. [...]
