The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope: Dark Energy and Exoplanets / Rhodes, Jason (speaker)
The top recommendation for a large space mission in the US 2010 Decadal Survey was the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope (formerly known as WFIRST), which is now on schedule for launch in 2025.  Similarities in hardware requirements between proposed dark energy cosmology, exoplanet microlensing, and near infrared surveyor missions allowed for a single mission that would accomplish all three goals.  The gift of an existing 2.4 meter telescope to NASA by another US government agency allowed for the addition of a coronagraph that will take images and spectra of nearby exoplanets; this instrument will be a technological stepping stone to imaging other Earths in the 2030s.  I will give an overview of Roman's instrumentation, science goals, and implementation plan.

QUANTUM SENSORS of the DARK and EARLY UNIVERSE: Exploiting Quantum Entanglement in the Laboratory for Detection of Particles and Fields Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) and signals from Very Early Universe / Chattopadhyay, Swapan (speaker) (Distinguished Scientist, Fermilab, USA and President’s Professor of Research, Scholarship and Artistry Northern Illinois University, USA )
After an introduction of the extraordinary success of large particle accelerators, colliders and  classical detectors of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries in developing the now widely accepted Standard Model (SM) of particle physics, I will introduce and expose the basic  concepts and techniques of “quantum sensors”, illustrate “quantum entanglement” at work  around us and its controlled exploitation in the laboratory to detect with high precision very weak signals of exotic particles and fields that may exist Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) and  signals from the emerging “early” and “dark” universe. Our immediate familiar natural world as well as our known universe, as it supposedly emerged  from the “Big Bang” 13.8 billion years ago, are "quantum-entangled" from the microscopic to the macroscopic scale, from the "inner" to the "outer" dimensions. This fundamental "quantum entanglement" can be harnessed to sense and probe extremely "weak" processes and signals in nature around us – signals left over from the very “early” and “dark” universe, allowing us to be  ‘cosmic archaeologists’ [...]

The LHC as a photon collider with the ATLAS detector / Kepka, Oldrich (speaker) (Czech Academy of Sciences (CZ))
Abstract: Photon fusion is a rare and interesting process at proton and ion colliders, involving purely electroweak interactions and allowing precision tests of the gauge structure of the Standard Model. Experimentally it has a remarkably clean signature with little (if any) remnant activity from the interacting beam particles, although this signature is very difficult to identify in the harsh experimental conditions at the LHC. In this seminar, recent ATLAS photon fusion results are presented: the observation of photo-produced weak-boson pair-production, cross-section measurement of lepton pair production with proton tagging in the ATLAS Forward Proton Spectrometer, and studies of light-by-light scattering.
