 Tau identification for Run-2 and its performance with 2015 data /CMS Collaboration The CMS hadrons-plus-strips (HPS) algorithm that was developed to reconstruct tau leptons in their hadronic decays demonstrated a good performance in the LHC Run-1; the algorithm achieves an identification efficiency of 50--60$\mathrm{\%}$ with a probability for quark and gluon jets, electrons, and muons to be misidentified as $\tau$~lepton between per cent and per mille levels.
