\boldmath R\&D results of iRPC tested at GIF++ for the CMS Phase-II upgrade / Lim, Jae Hoon (Korea U.) /CMS Collaboration
During the CMS Phase-II upgrade for the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC), the Resistive Plate Chamber (RPC) system of the CMS muon system will be extended up to a pseudorapidity ($\eta$) region of 2.4. When the instantaneous luminosity reaches a maximum value of 7.5 $\times$ 10$^{34}$ cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$ in the future HL-LHC runs, the expected maximum particle rate of the RPC system of the extended $\eta$ region will be about 700 Hz/cm$^{2}$. In view of the expected background conditions, in the past few years, we have studied high-sensitive thin phenolic double-gap RPC prototypes to improve the rate capability. The improved Resistive Plate Chambers (iRPCs) have been studied with 100 GeV SPS H4 muon beams in the new Gamma Irradiation Facility (GIF++). The performance of the iRPC was tested with a maximum gamma rate of about 4 kHz/cm$^{2}$ by using a dedicated algorithm for clustering and tracking and meets the specifications to be operated in the future HL-LHC..

B$\to\mu^{+}\mu^{-}$ rare decays at CMS / Fedi, Giacomo (INFN, Pisa) /CMS Collaboration
We report on the results obtained from the search for leptonic decays $\mathrm{B^0_s}\to \mu^+\mu^-$ and $\mathrm{B^0}\to \mu^+\mu^-$ in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV and 8 TeV, collected at CMS during 2011 and 2012 data-taking, for a total of 25 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity. We measured the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}$($\mathrm{B^0_s}\to \mu^+\mu^-$)=$(3.0^{+1.0}_{-0.9})\times 10^{-9}$ and we observed an excess of $\mathrm{B^0_s}\to \mu^+\mu^-$ events with a significance of 4.3 standard deviations.
