Electromagnetic processes of charged particles interaction with oriented crystals provide a wide variety of innovative applications such as beam steering, crystal-based extraction/collimation of leptons and hadrons in an accelerator, a fixed-target experiment on magnetic and electric dipole moment measurement, X-ray and gamma radiation source for radiotherapy and nuclear physics and a positron source for lepton and muon colliders, a compact crystalline calorimeter as well as plasma acceleration in the crystal media. Radiation Protection at the Large Hadron Collider: Problematics, Challenges and Advanced Monte Carlo Simulation Techniques
/ Infantino, Angelo (CERN) ; Björkman, Daniel (CERN) ; Elie, Lucie (CERN) ; Maietta, Maddalena (CERN) ; Tromel, Christophe (CERN) ; Vincke, Heinz (CERN)
This paper provides an overview of the problems, challenges, and the advanced simulation techniques used to study and plan complex interventions in radiation areas at CERNs Large Hadron Collider and its future upgrade to the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider. The operational radiation protection aspects are supported by state of the art simulations by means of the FLUKA Monte Carlo code and estimates conducted via other tools such as ActiWiz and SESAME, used within the HSE-RP group..

Integrated stratigraphic, sedimentological and petrographical evaluation for CERN’s Future Circular Collider subsurface infrastructure (Geneva Basin, Switzerland-France)
/ Haas, Maximilian (CERN ; Geneva U.) ; Carraro, Davide (Geneva U.) ; Ventra, Dario (Geneva U.) ; Plötze, Michael (Zurich, ETH) ; De Haller, Antoine (Geneva U.) ; Moscariello, Andrea (Geneva U.)
AbstractThe European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) is currently undertaking a feasibility study to build the next-generation particle accelerator, named the Future Circular Collider (FCC), hosted in a 90–100 km subsurface infrastructure in the Geneva Basin, extending across western Switzerland and adjacent France. This article represents a preliminary, basin-scale stratigraphic and lithotype analysis using state-of-the-art Swiss and French stratigraphic terminology, set in context with the FCC. [...]

We present Fast Monte-CarlO approach to Coherence of Undulator Sources (FOCUS), a new GPU-based code to compute the transverse coherence of X-ray radiation from undulator sources. The code relies on scaled dimension- less quantities and analytic expressions of the electric field emitted by electrons in an undulator. [...]

Optimization Study of Beam Position and Angular Jitter Independent Bunch Length Monitor for Awake Run 2
/ Davut, Can (U. Manchester (main) ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; CERN) ; Apsimon, Oznur (U. Liverpool (main) ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. In this paper, a study using the Polarization Current Approach (PCA) model is performed to optimize the design of a short bunch length monitor using two dielectric radiators that produce coherent Cherenkov Diffraction Radiation (ChDR). The electromagnetic power emitted from each radiator is measuring a different part of the bunch spectrum using Schottky diodes. [...]

LINAC4 Laser Profile and Emittance Meter Commissioning

The CERN LINAC4 is now equipped with two laser profile and emittance meters, a basically non destructive measurement of the transverse beam profile, not limited by the beam power density. The light of a pulsed laser is trans- ported through optical fibers and focused into the 160 MeV/c $H^{-}$ beam. [...]
