Description of beam instabilities in synchrotrons with wakefields and space charge forces using the circulant matrix model / Buffat, X (CERN) ; Métral, E (CERN) ; Gottlob, E (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne ; U. Brussels (main)) ; Høgh, C (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne ; Imperial Coll., London) ; Oeftiger, A (Darmstadt, GSI ; CERN) ; Pieloni, T (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne)
A new model for the description of beam instabilities in synchrotrons featuring wakefields and space charge forces is proposed, using the circulant matrix approach. The predictions of this model are discussed in light of past ones, with a particular emphasis on the possible mitigation of the transverse mode coupling instability by space charge forces. [...]

GaToroid - Status and Perspectives / Bottura, Luca (CERN) ; Dutheil, Yann (CERN) ; Felcini, Enrico (EPFL - Ecole Polytechnique Federale Lausanne (CH)) ; Haziot, Ariel (CERN) ; Lehtinen, Tuukka (CERN) ; Tommasini, Davide (CERN) ; Vernassa, Gianluca (INFN e Universita Genova (IT))
We describe in this report the status of the study performed at CERN on GaToroid, an idea of a novel magnetic configuration based on the symmetry properties of a toroidal magnetic field, that could find its use in gantries for hadron therapy. [...]

Mechanical Behavior of the Shielded HL-LHC Beam Screen during a Magnet Quench / Morrone, Marco (CERN) ; Garion, Cedric (CERN) ; Chiggiato, Paolo (CERN) ; Sacristan De Frutos, Oscar ; Guinchard, Michael (CERN) ; Fiscarelli, Lucio (CERN)
In the framework of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) project, larger and shielded beam screens will be installed in the beam pipe of the superconducting magnets of the insertion next to the ATLAS and CMS detectors. The beam screen is a complex assembly that guarantees the vacuum requirements while shielding the magnet cold mass from the induced heat loads. [...]

Self-consistent derivation of the transverse mode coupling instability for coasting beams using the linearized Vlasov equation / Biancacci, N. (CERN) ; Métral, E. (CERN) ; Migliorati, M. (Rome U., La Sapienza, Dip. di Matematica ; INFN, Rome)
The mode coupling instability for coasting beams has been discussed in a previous paper using macroparticle tracking simulations from the pyHeadTail code and a simple analytical formula which was proposed as an extension of the ansatz used for the single-particle formalism. [...]

Electromagnetic characterization of the crystal primary collimators for the HL-LHC / Quartullo, D (Rome U. ; INFN, Rome) ; Arpaia, P (Naples U.) ; Biancacci, N (CERN) ; Giordano, F (CERN ; Naples U.) ; Lamas Garcia, I (CERN) ; Mostacci, A (Rome U. ; INFN, Rome) ; Palumbo, L (Rome U.) ; Redaelli, S (CERN) ; Salvant, B (CERN) ; Teofili, L (CERN) et al.
The crystal-based primary collimators installed in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN use the channelling process in bent crystals to steer halo particles efficiently onto downstream collimators. This scheme, called crystal collimation, is also considered for applications of fixed-target implementations in the context of the Physics Beyond Collider at the LHC. [...]

Considerations for a RF separated K+ beam for NA62 / Appleby, Robert Barrie (University of Manchester (GB)) ; Bernhard, Johannes (CERN) ; Dainton, John Bourke (Lancaster University (GB)) ; Burt, Graeme Campbell (Lancaster University (GB)) ; Gatignon, Lau (Lancaster University (GB)) ; Goudzovski, Evgueni (University of Birmingham (GB)) ; Jones, Rhodri (CERN) ; Lazzeroni, Cristina (University of Birmingham (GB)) ; Romano, Angela (University of Birmingham (GB)) ; Giuseppe, Ruggiero (Dipartimento di Fisica e Astronomia) et al.
In this document we assess the potential of RF separation to increase the kaon content of the high-intensity secondary beam to the NA62 experiment in the CERN North Area. The present mixed beam provides a nominal kaon flux of 45 MHz out of a total beam intensity of about 750 MHz. [...]

Progress in the long $Nb_3Sn$ quadrupole R&D; by LARP / Ambrosio, G (Fermilab) ; Andreev, N (Fermilab) ; Anerella, M (Brookhaven) ; Barzi, E (Fermilab) ; Bocian, D (Fermilab) ; Bossert, r (Fermilab) ; Buehler, M (Fermilab) ; Caspi, S (LBL, Berkeley) ; Chlachidze, G (Fermilab) ; Dietderich, D (LBL, Berkeley) et al.
After the successful test of the first long quadrupole (LQS01) the US LHC Accelerator Research Program (LARP, a collaboration of BNL, FNAL, LBNL and SLAC) is assessing training memory, reproducibility, and other accelerator quality features of long quadrupole magnets. LQS01b (a reassembly of LQS01 with more uniform and higher pre-stress) was subjected to a full thermal cycle and reached the previous plateau of 222 T/m at 4.5 K in two quenches. [...]
