PERFORMANCE OF THE ATLAS JET TRIGGER AND FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS / Sherafati, Nima (Carleton University) /ATLAS Collaboration
The ATLAS experiment at the LHC uses a two-level trigger system to record interesting events maintaining good signal efficiency at lower energies where pileup dominates. A new challenge is to control the increased trigger rate due to the expected higher pileup for LHC Run 2. [...]

High-Granularity Timing Detector for the Phase-II up-grade of the ATLAS Calorimeter system / Gkougkousis, Evangelos Leonidas (Santa Cruz Institute for Particle Physics, University of California Santa Cruz) /ATLAS Collaboration
The expected increase of the particle flux at the high luminosity phase of the LHC (HL-LHC) with instantaneous luminosities up to L ≃ 7.5×1034 cm−2s−1 will have a severe impact on pile-up. The pile-up is expected to increase on average to 200 interactions per bunch crossing. [...]

Phase - I Trigger Readout Electronics upgrade for the ATLAS Liquid Argon Calorimeters / Dinkespiler, Bernard (Centre de Physique des Particules de Marseille (CPPM), IN2P3-CNRS) /ATLAS Collaboration
The upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) scheduled for shut-down period of 2018-2019, referred to as Phase-I upgrade, will increase the instantaneous luminosity to about three times the design value. Since the current ATLAS trigger system does not allow sufficient increase of the trigger rate, an improvement of the trigger system is required. [...]

The design and simulated performance of a fast Level 1 track trigger for the ATLAS High Luminosity Upgrade / Martensson, Mikael (Uppsala University, Department of Physics and Astronomy) /ATLAS Collaboration
The ATLAS experiment at the high-luminosity LHC will face a five-fold increase in the number of interactions per collision relative to the ongoing Run 2. This will require a proportional improvement in rejection power at the earliest levels of the detector trigger system, while preserving good signal efficiency. [...]

Construction and Quality Assurance of Large Area Resistive Strip Micromegas for the Upgrade of the ATLAS Muon Spectrometer / Losel, Philipp Jonathan (Ludwig-Maximilians-Univ. Muenchen (DE)) /ATLAS Collaboration
To cope with the increased background induced hit rate of up to ~15 kHz/cm$^2$ in the innermost stations of the muon endcap system of the ATLAS experiment after the high-luminosity upgrade of the LHC, the currently used precision detectors will be replaced by resistive strip Micromegas in 2019. In the "New Small Wheel" the Micromegas will be arranged in two times four detection layers built of trapezoidally shaped quadruplets of four different sizes. The Micromegas quadruplets will consist of 5 panels, 3 drift panels and 2 readout panels, made of aluminum honeycomb core sandwiched by printed circuit boards (PCBs). Laboratory tests of the response stability of the ATLAS Tile Calorimeter photomultipliers / Kazanin, Vassili (Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics, Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences) ; Leone, Sandra (INFN Pisa and Universita' di Pisa, Dipartimento di Fisica) ; Scuri, Fabrizio (INFN Pisa and Universita' di Pisa, Dipartimento di Fisica) /ATLAS Collaboration
High performance of the ATLAS Tile Calorimeter response is achieved with a multi-stage calibration. One step of the calibration is based on measurements of the response to laser pulse excitation of the PMTs used to read out the calorimeter cells. [...]

ATLAS jet and missing energy reconstruction, calibration and performance in LHC Run-2 / Hrynevich, Aliaksei (Research Institute for Nuclear Problems of Byelorussian State University) /ATLAS Collaboration
The performance of the reconstruction and calibration of the jet energy scale and missing transverse energy scale with the ATLAS detector at the LHC is a key component to realize the ATLAS full physics potential, both in the searches for new physics and in precision measurements. New algorithms used for the reconstruction and calibration of jets and missing energy with the ATLAS detector during LHC run 2 are presented. [...]
