The DArk Matter Particle Explorer mission / DAMPE Collaboration
The DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE), one of the four scientific space science missions within the framework of the Strategic Pioneer Program on Space Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is a general purpose high energy cosmic-ray and gamma-ray observatory, which was successfully launched on December 17th, 2015 from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. Detectors based on the bulk-Micromegas technology exhibit position resolution better than 100 μm at counting rates of up to several tens of kHz/cm2, along with trigger capabilities. These characteristics, combined with the detector's mechanical robustness and the possibility for cost-effective industrial production, makes them a promising candidate for the ATLAS Muon Spectrometer upgrade in a future luminosity enhancement of the LHC.
