The consolidation campaign, managed by the Quench Protection team, is advancing well. Phase 1 of the campaign is focused on the new protection system designed to monitor the superconducting busbars. >>

CERN in FP7: very successful participation so far

The first two years of the seventh Framework Programme were very successful for CERN – 27 EU projects were selected for funding in 2007 and 2008, with the total EC contribution exceeding 33 million euros. >>

Italian visit

Franco Frattini, Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs, paid a visit to CERN on 29 January. >>

New Year’s reception

At a reception on 28 January, the CERN management presented their best wishes for 2009 to politicians and representatives of the administrations in the local area, and diplomats representing CERN’s Member States, Observer States and other countries. >>

Cleaning lady saves the day

At lunch time on Wednesday 21 January a guest at the CERN hostel put her food in the microwave oven and switched it on. >>

The worksite for the tram-line reaches CERN

The civil-engineering work for the tram-line outside CERN starts on 16 February. >>

Michael Niegl (1985-2009)

Our friend and colleague Michael Niegl died in a tragic accident in the first hours of the new year. Michael was a Master’s student in Microsystems Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt. >>
