Effects of the extraction voltage applied by the puller-electrode on the H$^−$ extraction in the Linac4 negative ion source / Abe, S (Keio U.) ; Nishioka, S (Keio U.) ; Mattei, S (CERN) ; Hatayama, A (Keio U.) ; Lettry, J (CERN)
In order to understand the H$^−$ extraction mechanism and investigate the effect of the extraction voltage applied by the puller-electrode on the H$^−$ extraction in the Linac4 negative ion source, we are developing a 2D3V-PIC (two dimensions in the real space and three dimensions in the velocity space, Particle in Cell) model with volume produced H$^−$ ions. It is shown that how to take the magnetic filter field direction is important for the 2D modeling to take into account the important 3D effect of electron $E \times B$ drift. [...]

The experimental area 2 (EAR-2) at CERNs neutron time-of-flight facility (n_TOF), which is operational since 2014, is designed and built as a short-distance complement to the experimental area 1 (EAR-1). The Parallel Plate Avalanche Counter (PPAC) monitor experiment was performed to characterize the beam profile and the shape of the neutron flux at EAR-2. [...]

The EuCARD-2 project, co-funded by the European Commission, supports the design, production and standalone cold testing of a high-temperature, superconducting demonstrator insert-magnet. The so-called Feather-M2 dipole magnet was built at CERN, using Roebel cable consisting of REBCO coated conductor tapes. [...]

160 MeV H− beam will be delivered from the new CERN linear accelerator (Linac4) to the Proton Synchrotron Booster (PSB), using a H− charge-exchange injection system. A 200 µg/cm2 carbon stripping foil will convert H− into protons by stripping off the electrons. [...]

Evaluation of strip-line pick-up system for the SPS wideband transverse feedback system / Kotzian, G (CERN) ; Hofle, W (CERN) ; Steinhagen, R J (CERN) ; Valuch, D (CERN) ; Wehrle, U (CERN)
The proposed SPS Wideband Transverse Feedback sys- tem requires a wide-band pick-up system to be able to de- tect intra-bunch motion within the SPS proton bunches, captured and accelerated in a 200 MHz bucket. We present the electro-magnetic design of transverse beam position pick-up options optimised for installation in the SPS and evaluate their performance reach with respect to direct time domain sampling of the intra-bunch motion. The n_TOF facility: Neutron beams for challenging future measurements at CERN / Chiaveri, E (CERN ; U. The CERN n_TOF neutron beam facility is characterized by a very high instantaneous neutron flux, excellent TOF resolution at the 185 m long flight path (EAR-1), low intrinsic background and coverage of a wide range of neutron energies, from thermal to a few GeV. These characteristics provide a unique possibility to perform high-accuracy measurements of neutron-induced reaction cross-sections and angular distributions of interest for fundamental and applied Nuclear Physics. In order to prevent uncontrolled beam losses in the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) at CERN, which can cause thermal and radiation damages to machine components, an internal beam dumping system is used. Upgraded layout will consists of three fast pulsed magnets which deflect the circulating beam vertically and three that sweep it in horizontal axis onto an absorber block within one accelerator revolution.
