Impact of filling scheme on beam induced RF heating in CERN LHC and HL-LHC / Giordano, Francesco (Universita di Napoli Federico II (IT)) ; Arpaia, Pasquale (dir.) () ; De Vito, Luca (dir.) () ; Salvant, Benoit (dir.) ()
At CERN, after the first maintenance cycle (Long Shutdown 1, LS1) of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), several sectors of the accelerator present a beam-induced heating much larger than expectations. This work compares data measured by cryogenic instrumentation with the expected heat load for various filling schemes and shows that impedance is not reasonably the major cause of the additional heat load.
