Precision spectroscopy and laser-cooling scheme of a radium-containing molecule / Udrescu, S M (MIT) ; Wilkins, S G (MIT) ; Breier, A A (Kassel U.) ; Athanasakis-Kaklamanakis, M (CERN ; Leuven U.) ; Ruiz, R F Garcia (MIT) ; Au, M (CERN ; Mainz U.) ; Belošević, I (TRIUMF) ; Berger, R (Philipps U. Marburg) ; Bissell, M L (Manchester U.) ; Binnersley, C L (Manchester U.) et al.
Molecules containing heavy radioactive nuclei are predicted to be extremely sensitive to violations of the fundamental symmetries of nature. The nuclear octupole deformation of certain radium isotopes massively boosts the sensitivity of radium monofluoride molecules to symmetry-violating nuclear properties. [...]

Half-life determination of $^{215}$At and $^{221}$Ra with high-purity radioactive ion beams / Bara, S (KU Leuven, Dept. Phys. Astron.) ; Jajčišinová, E (KU Leuven, Dept. Phys. Astron. ; Geel, JRC) ; Cocolios, T E (KU Leuven, Dept. Phys. Astron.) ; Andel, B (Comenius U.) ; Antalic, S (Comenius U.) ; Camaiani, A (Florence U. ; INFN, Florence ; KU Leuven, Dept. Phys. At CERN-ISOLDE, high-purity radioactive ion beams of $^{219}$Fr and $^{221}$RaF were investigated with $\alpha$-decay spectroscopy at the CRIS and ASET experiments in the course of three different experimental campaigns. The half-life of $^{215}$At, $\alpha$-decay daughter of $^{219}$Fr, is measured to be 36.3(3)[9]μs, and that of $^{221}$Ra was determined to be 26.2(1)[6]s, both of which are well in line with the trends in this region of the nuclear landscape but at odds with some of the reported literature..

Temperature Dependence of the Hyperfine Magnetic Field at Fe Sites in Ba-Doped BiFeO$_3$ Thin Films Studied by Emission Mössbauer Spectroscopy / Heiniger-Schell, Juliana (CERN ; Duisburg-Essen U.) ; Bharuth-Ram, Krish (ENS, Lyon, Lab. Phys. ; KwaZulu Natal U. ; DUT, Durban) ; Naicker, Kimara (ENS, Lyon, Lab. Phys. ; KwaZulu Natal U.) ; Masondo, Vusumuzi (DUT, Durban) ; Dang, Thien Thanh (Duisburg-Essen U.) ; Escobar, Marianela (Duisburg-Essen U.) ; Díaz-Guerra, Carlos (Madrid U.) ; Marschick, Georg (Vienna, Tech. Emission $^{57}$Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy (eMS), following the implantation of radioactive $^{57}$Mn+ ions, has been used to study the temperature dependence of the hyperfine magnetic field at Fe sites in Ba-doped BiFeO$_3$ (BFO) thin films. $^{57}$Mn β decays (t$_{1/2}$ = 90 s) to the 14.4 keV Mössbauer state of $^{57}$Fe, thus allowing online eMS measurements at a selection of sample temperatures during Mn implantation. Phys.) ; Studer, Dominik ; Heinke, Reinhard (CERN) ; Kieck, Tom (Darmstadt, GSI ; Helmholtz Inst., Mainz) ; Wendt, Klaus (Mainz U., Inst. Phys.)
We report on the development and application of the Field Ionization Laser Ion Source and Trap (FI-LIST) at the RISIKO mass separator at Mainz University. The FI-LIST is an adaptation of the well-established LIST unit developed at Mainz and successfully adapted to CERN-ISOLDE. [...]

Extracting clean low-energy spectra from silicon strip detector telescopes around punch through energies / Jensen, E A M (Aarhus U.) ; Riisager, K (Aarhus U.) ; Fynbo, H O U (Aarhus U.)
The response of detector telescopes becomes complex around their relevant punch through energies: For some deposited energies the corresponding particle kinetic energies cannot be uniquely assigned, and these spurious energy regions can span several hundreds of keV if the telescopes are employed in close geometry. We present methods for producing clean low-energy spectra of light ions from detector telescopes consisting of thin doublesided silicon strip detectors (DSSSDs) backed by thick silicon pad detectors [...]

Production and characterization of a $^{222}$Rn-emanating stainless steel source / Jörg, Florian (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) ; Eurin, Guillaume (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst. ; IRFU, Saclay) ; Simgen, Hardy (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.)
Precise radon measurements are a requirement for various applications, ranging from radiation protection over environmental studies to material screening campaigns for rare-event searches. All of them ultimately depend on the availability of calibration sources with a known and stable radon emanation rate. [...]

Enhancing the performance of solenoidal spectrometers for inverse reactions / Butler, P.A. (Liverpool U.)
Helical-orbit solenoidal spectrometers, in which the target and detector are placed inside a uniform magnetic field, have been utilised for more than a decade to study nuclear reactions in inverse kinematics, induced by radioactive beams. Methods to improve the final state energy resolution are presented and the inclusion of an active gas target is proposed to improve the performance of the spectrometer..
