Development, Fabrication & Test of the Round, Multi-Layer REBCO Cables of the Cold Powering Systems of the HL-LHC
/ Barth, C (CERN) ; Saba, A (CERN) ; Leclercq, Y (CERN) ; Ballarino, A (CERN)
The magnets of the High Luminosity Upgrade of the Large Hadron collider (HL-LHC) will be electrically connected through Cold Powering Systems incorporating superconducting, 100 kA class, power transmission lines to direct current power converters in service galleries. These transmission lines or ‘Superconducting Links’ are based on multi-circuit magnesium di-boride (MgB2) cables in 74.5–120 m long flexible cryostats. [...]

Evolving the LHCOPN and LHCONE networks to support HL-LHC computing requirements
/ Martelli, Edoardo (CERN)
The LHCOPN network, which links CERN to all the WLCG Tier 1s, and the LHCONE network, which connects WLCG Tier1s and Tier2s, have successfully provided the necessary bandwidth for the distribution of the data generated by the LHC experiments during first two runs of the LHC accelerator. We give here an overview of the most significant achievements and the current state of the two networks. [...]

Mitigation Strategies for the Instabilities Induced by the Fundamental Mode of the HL-LHC Crab Cavities
/ Giacomel, Lorenzo (CERN) ; Baudrenghien, Philippe (CERN) ; Buffat, Xavier (CERN) ; Calaga, Rama (CERN) ; Mounet, Nicolas (CERN)
The transverse impedance is one of the potentially limiting effects for the performance of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC). In the current LHC, the impedance is dominated by the resistive-wall contribution of the collimators at typical bunch-spectrum frequencies, and is of broad-band nature. [...]

The CMS Fast Beam Condition Monitor for HL-LHC
/ Auzinger, G. (CERN) ; Bakhshiansohi, H. (Isfahan Tech. U.) ; Dabrowski, A. (CERN) ; Delannoy, A.G. (Oxford U.) ; Dierlamm, A. (KIT, Karlsruhe, IKP) ; Dragicevic, M. (Vienna, OAW) ; Gholami, A. (Isfahan Tech. U.) ; Gomez, G. (Cantabria Inst. of Phys.) ; Guthoff, M. (DESY) ; Haranko, M. (CERN) et al.
The high-luminosity upgrade of the LHC brings unprecedented requirements for real-time andprecision bunch-by-bunch online luminosity measurement and beam-induced background monitoring. Akey component of the CMS Beam Radiation, Instrumentation and Luminosity system is a stand-aloneluminometer, the Fast Beam Condition Monitor (FBCM), which is fully independent from the CMScentral trigger and data acquisition services and able to operate at all times with a triggerlessreadout. Design, manufacturing and validation of the new quench heater discharge power supplies for the protection of superconducting magnets for the High-Luminosity LHC Project at CERN
/ Carrillo, David (CERN) ; Berberat, Raphael (CERN) ; Georgakakis, Spyridon (CERN) ; Guasch-Martinez, Josep (CERN) ; Lopez Cordoncillo, Denisse (CERN) ; de Nicolás Lumbreras, Enrique (CERN) ; Nowak, Edward (CERN) ; Papamichali, Maria (CERN) ; Pojer, Mirko (CERN) ; Rodriguez Mateos, Felix (CERN) et al.
The Quench Heater Discharge Power Supplies (HDS) are magnet protection devices installed in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) that, upon detection of a magnet quench, release energy into strip heaters that are in thermal contact with the superconducting coils, inducing a resistive transition all along the coils. The new HDS design for protection of the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) Inner Triplet magnets calls for a more advanced design with up-to-date components resulting in a high reliability of the HDS units. Hardware Commissioning of the HL-LHC Inner Triplet String Facility at CERN: Individual System and Short Circuit Tests

The goal of the High Luminosity-Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) Inner Triplet (IT) String test, is to validate the assembly and connection procedures and tools required for its construction, to assess the collective behavior of the superconducting magnet chain in conditions as close as possible to those of their operation in the HL-LHC and to provide a training opportunity for the equipment teams for their work in the LHC tunnel. The IT String includes the systems required for operation at nominal conditions, such as the cryogenics, powering and quench protection systems. [...]

The novel Coupling-Loss-Induced-Quench (CLIQ) concept will be part of the quench protection system of the superconducting Inner Triplet magnets of the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) upgrade at CERN. Several units of two distinct CLIQ prototype variants were produced to validate the CLIQ protection concept and define the system parameters for the required performance. [...]
