Quantum Computational Supremacy and Its Applications / Aaronson , Scott (speaker) (UT Austin, US)
Last fall, a team at Google announced the first-ever demonstration of "quantum computational supremacy"---that is, a clear quantum speedup over a classical computer for some task---using a 53-qubit programmable superconducting chip called Sycamore.  Google's accomplishment drew on a decade of research in my field of quantum complexity theory.  This talk will discuss questions like: what exactly was the (contrived) problem that Sycamore solved?  How does one verify the outputs using a classical computer?  And how confident are we that the problem is classically hard---especially in light of subsequent counterclaims by IBM and others?  I'll end with a possible application that I've been developing for Google's experiment: namely, the generation of trusted public random bits, for use (for example) in cryptocurrencies. Studies of phase diagram of strongly interacting matter at the CERN SPS / Gazdzicki, Marek (speaker) (Goethe University Frankfurt (DE))
Twenty years ago, the seven experiments on CERN's Heavy Ion programme at the Super Proton Synchrotron  (NA44, NA45/CEREA,NA49, NA50,NA52/NEWMASS, WA97/NA57 and WA98) combining their data were able to  characterise a new state of matter, verifying an important prediction of the theory of fundamental forces between quarks. This talk briefly reviews studies of the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter with relativistic nuclear collisions  at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron which followed the observation of the quark-gluon plasma.  The first ten years of this period was mostly influenced by results of the NA49 experiment, the second period was dominated by NA61/SHINE.  I will close by suggesting priorities for future measurements.
