The series of upgrades to the Large Hadron Collider, culminating in the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider, will enable a significant expansion of the physics program of the CMS experiment. However, the accelerator upgrades will also make the experimental conditions more challenging, with implications for detector operations, triggering, and data analysis. [...]

CMS Full Simulation for Run-3
/ Ivantchenko, Vladimir (Tomsk State U.) ; Banerjee, Sunanda (Wisconsin U., Madison) ; Hugo, Gabrielle (CERN) ; Lo Meo, Sergio (INFN, Bologna) ; Osborne, Ianna (Princeton U.) ; Pedro, Kevin Jerome (Fermilab) ; Piparo, Danilo (CERN) ; Sorokin, Dmitry (Moscow, MIPT) ; Srimanobhas, Norraphat (Chulalongkorn U.) ; Vuosalo, Carl Onni Urho (Wisconsin U., Madison)
We report the status of the CMS full simulation for Run 3. During the long shutdown of the LHC a significant update has been introduced to the CMS code for simulation. [...]

Beam test performance of a prototype module with Short Strip ASICs for the CMS HL-LHC tracker upgrade
/ The Tracker Group of the CMS Collaboration
/CMS Collaboration
The Short Strip ASIC (SSA) is one of the four front-end chips designed for the upgrade of the CMS Outer Tracker for the High Luminosity LHC. Together with the Macro-Pixel ASIC (MPA) it will instrument modules containing a strip and a macro-pixel sensor stacked on top of each other.
The SSA provides both full readout of the strip hit information when triggered, and, together with the MPA, correlated clusters called stubs from the two sensors for use by the CMS Level-1 (L1) trigger system.
Results from the first prototype module consisting of a sensor and two SSA chips are presented. [...]

Experimental Study of Different Silicon Sensor Options for the Upgrade of the CMS Outer Tracker
/ Tracker Group of the CMS Collaboration
/CMS Collaboration
During the high-luminosity phase of the LHC (HL-LHC), planned to start around 2026,
the accelerator is expected to
deliver an instantaneous peak luminosity of up to $7.5\times10^{34}$~cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$.
A total of $3000$~fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity is
foreseen to be delivered to the general purpose detectors ATLAS and CMS over a decade, thereby increasing the discovery potential of the LHC experiments significantly.
The CMS detector will undergo a major upgrade for the HL-LHC, with entirely new tracking detectors consisting
of an Outer Tracker and Inner Tracker. [...]
