The CMS data representation using a cascade process of hadronization / Roinishvili, Vladimir (Tbilisi, Inst. Phys.)
The CMS data on multiplicity is compared with the data from other experiments on $\mathrm{e^+e^-}$ annihilation and $\mathrm{pp}$/$\mathrm{\bar pp}$ collisions. It is shown that $Z=\log(n_{ch})$ is an adequate variable for hadronizations, which has a linear dependency on the logarithm of the energy. [...]

Procedure for the LHC Higgs boson search combination in Summer 2011 / ATLAS, The /CMS Collaboration
In this note, we report the results of the technical combination exercises conducted by the group during Winter-Spring 2011 and summarize the decisions taken in preparation for the statistical combination of the Standard Model Higgs boson searches at the LHC. The procedure to be used for the combination in Summer 2011 is explicitly detailed to avoid potential biases from decisions taken after the data have been collected..

Comparison of Inclusive Jet and Dijet Mass Cross Sections at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7TeV with Predictions of perturbative QCD / Rabbertz, Klaus (Karlsruhe U., EKP) /CMS collaboration
In view of the first measurements on jet cross sections at the LHC the question arises to which extent predictions of perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics hold at the new center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}$=7TeV. In this note detailed comparisons of the published inclusive jet and dijet mass cross sections with calculations at next-to-leading order are presented using five recent sets of parton distribution functions including their uncertainties. A study of the time required for the CMS detector to reach its structural equilibrium once the magnetic field is ramped to its operational value of 3.8 T is presented. In addition, the results from a stability monitoring at 3.8 T over a nine-month period are given..

Design, Implementation and First Measurements with the Medipix Neutron Camera in CMS / Ball, Austin (CERN) ; Bell, Allan (CERN) ; Butler, Anthony (Canterbury U.) ; Butler, Philip (Canterbury U.) ; Hall-Wilton, Richard (CERN) ; Hegeman, Jeroen (CERN) ; Keen, Gary (New York Ctr. Origin of Life) ; Krofcheck, David (Auckland, U.) ; Mueller, Steffen (CERN) ; Macpherson, Alick (CERN) et al.
The Medipix detector is the first device dedicated to measuring mixed-field radiation in the CMS cavern and able to distinguish between different particle types. Medipix2-MXR chips bump bonded to silicon sensors with various neutron conversion layers developed by the Czech Technical University in Prague were successfully installed for the 2008 LHC start-up in the CMS experimental and services cavern to measure the flux of various particle types, in particular neutrons. CMSSW Performance Monitoring on processors based on the Intel Core and Nehalem Microarchitectures / Kruse, Daniele Francesco (CERN) /on behalf of the CMS Collaboration
CPU clock frequency is not likely to be increased significantly in the coming years, and data analysis speed can be improved by using more processors or buying new machines, only if one is willing to change the programming paradigm to a parallel one. Therefore, performance monitoring procedures and tools are needed to help programmers to optimize existing software running on current and future hardware, without having to redesign it completely. Low level information from hardware performance counters is vital to spot specific performance problems slowing program execution [...]

The Large Hadron Collider delivers up to 32 million physics collisions per second. This rate is far too high to be processed by present-day computer farms, let alone stored on disk by the experiments for offline analysis [...]

Response of avalanche photo-diodes of the CMS Electromagnetic Calorimeter to neutrons from an Americium-Beryllium source. / Deiters, Konrad (PSI, Villigen) ; Ingram, Quentin (PSI, Villigen) ; Renker, Dieter (PSI, Villigen) /CMS Collaboration
The response of avalanche photo-diodes (APDs) used in the CMS Electromagnetic Calorimeter to low energy neutrons from an Americium-Beryllium source is reported. Signals due to recoil protons from neutron interactions with the hydrogen nuclei in the protective epoxy layer, mainly close to the silicon surface of the APD, have been identified. [...]
