Particle Physics Instrumentation / Wingerter-Seez, I. (Annecy, LAPP) This reports summarizes the three lectures on particle physics instrumentation given during the AEPSHEP school in November 2014 at Puri-India. The lectures were intended to give an overview of the interaction of particles with matter and basic particle detection principles in the context of large detector systems like the Large Hadron Collider.. arXiv:1804.11246.- 2018-04-30 - 20 p. - Published in : 10.23730/CYRSP-2017-002.295 Fulltext: PDF; In : Proceedings, 2nd Asia-Europe-Pacific School of High-Energy Physics (AEPSHEP 2014), pp.295-314

Cosmology / Rubakov, V.A. (Moscow, INR ; Moscow State U.) Cosmology and particle physics are deeply interrelated. Among the common problems are dark energy, dark matter and baryon asymmetry of the Universe. Field Theory and the Electro-Weak Standard Model / Godbole, Rohini M. (Bangalore, Indian Inst. Sci.) In this set of four lectures I will discuss some aspects of the Standard Model (SM) as a quantum field theory and related phenomenological observations which have played a crucial role in establishing the $SU(2)_{L} \times U(1)_{Y}$ gauge theory as the correct description of Electro-Weak (EW) interactions. I will first describe in brief the idea of EW unification as well as basic aspects of the Higgs mechanism of spontaneous symmetry breaking. Imaging in Radiotherapy / Parodi, Katia With the continued evolution of modern radiation therapy towards high precision delivery of high therapeutic doses to the tumour while optimally sparing surrounding healthy tissue, imaging becomes a crucial component to identify the intended target, properly position it at the treatment site and, in more advanced research applications, visualize the treatment delivery. This contribution reviews the main role of imaging in modern external beam radiation therapy, with special emphasis on emerging ion beam therapy techniques, which aim at exploiting the favourable properties of ion interaction in matter for unprecedented ballistic accuracy in dose delivery arXiv:1804.08519.- 2018-04-23 - Published in : 10.23730/CYRSP-2017-001.71 Fulltext: PDF; In : CAS - CERN Accelerator School: Accelerators for Medical Applications, Vösendorf, Austria, 26 May - 5 Jun 2015, pp.71-78 (CERN-2017-004-SP)

Future (of) Synchrotrons for Particle Therapy / Flanz, Jay The field of particle therapy is quickly growing and yet it's more widespread adoption is limited by size, cost and adaptation to the more conformal treatment techniques. In order to realize the benefits of this modality the equipment used to generate and deliver the beam is evolving. Radiobiological Characterization of Clinical Proton and Carbon-Ion Beams / Scalliet, Pierre ; Gueulette, John Electromagnetic radiation (photons) or particle beam (protons or heavy ions) have similar biological effects, i.e. damage to human cell DNA that eventually leads to cell death if not correctly repaired.
