We examine the capacity of the Large Hadron Collider to determine the mean proper lifetime of long-lived particles assuming different decay final states. We employ model-dependent and model-independent methods in order to reconstruct the proper lifetime of neutral long-lived particles decaying into displaced leptons or jets, potentially accompanied by missing energy, as well as charged long-lived particles decaying into leptons and missing energy. We have studied the effect of limited statistics of data on measurement of the different order of cumulants of net-proton distribution assuming that the proton and antiproton distributions follow Possionian and Binomial distributions with initial parameters determined from experimental results for two top center of mass energies ($\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=200$ and $62.4$ GeV) in most central ($0-5$%) Au$+$Au collisions at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). In this simulation, we observe that the central values for higher order cumulants have a strong dependence on event sample size and due to statistical randomness the central values of higher order cumulants could become negative. Preparing CERN Tier-0 data centres for LHC Run 3 / Bärring, Olof (CERN)
Since 2013 CERN’s local data centre combined with a colocation infrastructure at the Wigner data centre in Budapest [1] have been hosting the compute and storage capacity for Worldwide LHC Computing Grid (WLCG) [2] Tier-0. In this paper we will describe how we try to optimize and improve the operation of our local data centre to meet the anticipated increment of the physics compute and storage requirements for Run 3, taking into account two important changes on the way: the end of the co-location contract with Wigner in 2019 and the loan of 2 out of 6 prefabricated compute modules being commissioned by the LHCb experiment [3] for their online computing farm..
