Resistive-Wall Impedance of Insertions for FCC-hh / Riemann, Bernard (Dortmund U., DELTA) ; Arsenyev, Sergey (CERN) ; Khan, Shaukat (Dortmund U., DELTA) ; Schulte, Daniel (CERN)
In this work, transverse and longitudinal resistive-wall impedances for beam pipes in the experiment, injection, extraction and RF systems insertion regions of the Future Hadron-Hadron Collider (FCC-hh) are computed based on contributions from different given cross sections of the surrounding (elliptical) chamber parts along the beam path, their temperature-dependent conductivities, and optical functions. An emphasis is placed on the behaviour of transverse impedance in the main experimental regions (A and G), where maximum beta values of $10^4$ to $10^5$ m occur in dependence of the operation mode respectively lattice configuration. Longitudinal coupled-bunch instabilities after transition crossing and at the flat-top limit the intensity of LHC-type beams in the CERN Proton Synchrotron (PS). A dedicated coupled-bunch feedback for dipole oscillation modes, using a Finemet cavity as wide-band longitudinal kicker, suppresses the instabilities up to an intensity of about 2·10¹¹ particles per bunch at extraction. Recurrent beam dumps significantly perturbed the operation of the CERN LHC in the summer months of 2017, especially in August.
