MD#2183: Calibration of the IR6 B2 diamond BLMs / Valette, Matthieu (CERN) ; Wollmann, Daniel (CERN) ; Lindstrom, Bjorn Hans Filip (Uppsala University (SE))
In case of an asynchronous beam dump with a fully filled LHC machine, causing ~40 bunches to impact on the movable dump protection absorber (TCDQ), it is expected that all standard ionisation chamber Beam Loss Monitors (IC BLM) around the LHC dumping region in IR6 will be saturated. [...]

Concept of a Machine Protection System for the High-Energy LHC / Raginel, Vivien ; Schmidt, Rudiger (Technische Universitaet Darmstadt (DE)) ; Wollmann, Daniel (CERN)
The High-Energy LHC (HE-LHC) is setting new precedents in stored energy in both, the superconducting magnet system (∼ 20 GJ) and the beams (1.34 GJ) as compared to LHC and the LHC upgrade to increase the luminosity (HL-LHC). [...]

MD#1826: Measurement of Quench Heater vertical kick / Valette, Matthieu (CERN) ; Wollmann, Daniel (CERN) ; Lindstrom, Bjorn Hans Filip (Uppsala University (SE)) ; Bortot, Lorenzo (CERN) ; Fernandez Navarro, Alejandro (CERN) ; Schmidt, Rudiger (Technische Universitaet Darmstadt (DE)) ; Verweij, Arjan (CERN)
Following the observation of vertical orbit oscillations of the LHC beam between the detection of a (beam induced) quench of an LHC main dipole and the beam dump, a study was started to verify that the orbit distortions are caused by the firing of the quench heaters (QH). [...]

Polar Coding for the Large Hadron Collider: Challenges in Code Concatenation / Balatsoukas Stimming, Alexios (CERN) ; Podzorny, Tomasz (CERN) ; Uythoven, Jan (CERN)
In this work, we present a concatenated repetition-polar coding scheme that is aimed at applications requiring highly unbalanced unequal bit-error protection, such as the Beam Interlock System of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Even though this concatenation scheme is simple, it reveals significant challenges that may be encountered when designing a concatenated scheme that uses a polar code as an inner code, such as error correlation and unusual decision log-likelihood ratio distributions. What can go wrong in stochastic cooling systems / Caspers, Fritz (ESI, Archamps ; CERN)
This paper discusses very practical aspects of stochastic cooling systems both during construction, running-in, operation and trouble shooting. Due to the high electronic gain, high sensitivity and large bandwidth of such systems, precautions have to be taken to avoid all sorts of EMI/EMC related problems as well as crosstalk and self-oscillations. [...]
